The Nip & Tuck articles by Dr Tracy Mountford appear weekly, in print and online, in the Monday ‘Inspire’ section. In this week’s column, a reader would like to know if there is a way to get rid of their giant frown line.
Is there a way to get rid of my giant frown line?
Dr Mountford explains that, deep, vertical lines can be a result of strong, active muscles, repetitive frowning and even genetics.
Also frowning when in the sun can cause the deep line to turn white because the skin isn’t exposed to sunlight, which, highlights the problem even more. If the line is still present when frowning, Dr Mountford suggests a combination treatment, starting with a muscle relaxant to create an initial softening effect. Then, approximately two weeks later, to treat the remaining part of the frown line with a Dermal Filler to lift the indentation up completely.
The considerations when putting Dermal Filler in this area, including bruising and swelling, but in experienced hands it is a safe procedure to perform. The filler will probably last a year or so; however, the muscle relaxant will require a maintenance treatment three to four times a year.
