Sculptra

Sculptra® is sometimes referred to as a liquid facelift and results in a softly nuanced and youthful facial contouring – without looking as if you’ve had anything done.

Sculptra is a collagen stimulator that works with your body deep within skin, rather than on the skin surface. It helps to rebuild lost collagen through a series of treatments, restoring volume and a natural fullness to your face over time – with results that can last up to two years*.

FAQ

Collagen is a natural protein that keeps skin firmed, toned and therefore youthful. As you get older, collagen loses strength and its ability to stand up to the effects of gravity that pull the skin downward. This leads to fine lines and wrinkles, cheek volume loss and temple hollows.

Sculptra is a collagen stimulator injection of poly-L-lactic acid (or PLA), which is a biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic of lactic acid. Lactic acid is made in our muscles after exercising and PLA has been used for years in dissolvable stitches.

Instead of working topically, Sculptra works with your body within the deep dermis: as the PLA microparticles are absorbed, they help stimulate collagen production.

As with wrinkle injections, Sculptra collagen injections use a very fine-gauge syringe but is injected deep under the skin. This fills the wrinkle then continues to stimulate the production of new collagen within the line over time. The skin regains its previous elasticity and smoothness for a soft, natural, more youthful appearance.

An improvement in skin volume is noticeable immediately. This facial injectable works gradually over several treatments (typically, three injections over three to four months), gently and gradually replenishing volume in your face for a youthful difference that you’ll notice over time and with results that can last up to two years.*

On average, patients require approximately three sessions of Sculptra at least 4-6 weeks apart. It all depends on desired result and the age of the patient.

An improvement in the firmness of your skin will usually be noticeable 2-3 weeks after treatment due to wrinkles and lines having been supported and lifted with Sculptra.

Sculptra starts to stimulate the natural, gradual production of collagen, and within the next 2-3 weeks, the wrinkles or lines may appear to regress, which is normal. You will begin to see progressive and visible results, which appear naturally and gradually within the next few weeks after each treatment session. Results then can last up to two years.

Results with Sculptra can be much longer lasting than other types of cosmetic procedures because the body’s own collagen is stimulated. You may expect a sustained improvement that can last for more than two years.*

Sculptra collagen injections must be undertaken by a medical practitioner certified/trained in the treatment.

Each treatment takes about 30-45 minutes. The number of injection appointments – and injections per appointment – vary from patient to patient: it depends on how much collagen has been lost. Your medical practitioner will give you all the advice you need.

Sculptra is injected in a pattern to evenly fill out the face in the problem area. The practitioner then massages the area for a few minutes to evenly distribute Sculptra in the skin and prevent any bumps forming.

It’s natural for some people to experience some redness or bruising in the areas where Sculptra has been injected, but this should fade fast and you can relieve any discomfort an icepack can be applied as needed. You can apply make-up several hours after your collagen injections.

We recommend you massage the treated area regularly each day and avoid staying out in the sun.

Sculptra uses a component – poly-L-lactic acid (or PLA) – that is biocompatible, fully absorbable, and successfully proven in a number of medical and pharmaceutical fields such as suture thread, orthopaedic pins, and screws and nails for bone fractures.

No skin test before treatment is required.

No, there’s no downtime and you can resume your normal activities after treatment.

Sculptra contains a built-in anaesthetic: Lidocaine. You may feel a slight sting as the injection is applied to your skin but there is usually little or no discomfort afterwards.

Sculptra is different to traditional dermal fillers in several ways. It uses poly-L-lactic acid which works to replace lost collagen. The effects therefore increase over time and will subtly and gradually replenish volume in your face. Also, results can last up to two years.*

At The Cosmetic Skin Clinic prices for a Sculptra treatment start at £425. Please note this is a starting from price and the price will depend on your individual needs, desired results and recommended treatment plan as well as your clinic location and chosen practitioner.
