How to treat and improve very dry skin

The clocks have gone back, winter is around the corner and with it comes a big issue that both men and women suffer from at this time of year: dry skin.

As we come out of summer and head into winter, skin can be left looking dull, aged, and lacklustre. It loses hydration, vitality, and that lovely glow we associate with summer skin.

Thankfully, dry skin is something that we can address quite easily at the clinic. It’s also something you can treat or help at home without even realising it and that’s what I’m discussing in this week’s Weekly Q&A.

Here’s some pointers that will have your skin looking summer-ready all year round:

  • Skin boosters – Also called skin revitalization, this treatment involves micro injections of hyaluronic acid under the surface of the skin. It hydrates and smooths the skin, creating a lovely dewy complexion. It’s a straightforward process that only lasts 10 minutes.
  • Laser – Clear and Brilliant is specifically designed for the 30 to 40 year old crowd and is a favourite among models and celebrities who want to keep their skin in top condition. The laser delivers wavelengths of light that to the skin and is designed to restore texture, tone, and luminosity. All it takes is two or three 15 minute procedures that will have your skin looking firm, radiant, and very healthy*.
  • Home remedies – There’s some very straightforward things you can do at home to improve your dry skin. Using a gentle, non-abrasive exfoliant twice as week will remove those dead cells that leave skin lacklustre and dry. Similarly, high-quality cosmeceutical products that contain Vitamin C or hyaluronic acid can improve skin if used diligently.
  • Lifestyle choices – Drink more water! This is one of the most basic rules for healthy, glowing skin. Watch your drink intake as too much alcohol can lead to skin dehydration. Sleep well and avoid overexposure to sun. Most importantly, wear good sunscreen all the time. Employing these simple but effective habits can really contribute to high-quality skin.

It’s very important to invest in your skin before it’s too late. Skin is one thing that can’t be replaced, so you’ve really got to look after it while you can!
